Silence does not only have to be a vow or extended amount of time spent. I have also learned to use silence regularly either to calm my spirit, to center me before working, or when about to have an intense interaction/conversation with someone. One of the more obvious uses of silence is daily meditation. There are many ways to sit in silence and there are many practices such as guided meditation, or intentional meditation on a certain area of the chakras (the energy centers in the body) as well as after prayer( the speaking to spirit). Practice silence in all these ways and they truly enrich my life and the experience of prayer. One of the main gifts of silence for me, is clarity and focus.
Here is an activity I do to get quiet and listen to spirit(inside and outside): I sit quietly on the floor in as comfortable of position as possible (mostly in front of my altar) and either use a guided meditation from online(youtube-guided meditation) or sit quietly with my hands over my heart(heart chakra) or over my stomach(will chakra). I spend time clearing my thoughts and checking into my body and I give attention to any pain, stress, anxiety, tightness in my body, and allow myself as much time and space i need to feel calm, connected to my body, and quiet my mind. This normally last about 15-25 minutes. This practice of stillness and connection to myself in silence may sound simple, but the business of the mind and tension we hold in our bodies might surprise you-getting still, is not as easy as you might think. . I do this to center right before working with a client or before doing something creative work(writing/dancing, etc).
Do you have a similar practice? Do you feel connected to yourself while in silence? Do you take significant amounts of time to be silent? Do you plan to do this practice or some variation of it? Share your personal nature based practice below so that others can gain from it as well. Share how it feels to connect to the earth. Share your thoughts on the forces in nature or just think on this and move on. Either way, I wish you blessings and light on your journey!
Join me for Day 7 tomorrow . I will be sharing practices that have to do with the theme of Self Love. ♥ Coach Meicka
